Ten random things: June 2

Ten box office number-one films in 1984:

  1. Ghostbusters
  2. Tightrope
  3. Teachers
  4. Police Academy
  5. Footloose
  6. All of Me
  7. Beverly Hills Cop
  8. Splash
  9. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  10. Oh, God! You Devil

Not coincidentally, I'm watching Ghostbusters as I type this. It holds up well, but some of the special effects -- for example, the scene of the monster dog thing running across the street in pursuit of Rick Moranis, which I just saw -- are pretty crude by modern standards. Still pretty damn funny though. Ghostbusters held the top spot for nine weeks, two of which were non-consecutive. Three other movies had non-consecutive number-one weeks: Terms of Endearment, Missing in Action, and Police Academy.
