Ten random things: June 26

Ten animals with tautonymous names:

  1. Short-tailed chinchilla (Chinchilla chinchilla)
  2. Amethyst gem clam (Gemma gemma)
  3. Brazilian long-pedipalped harvestman (Sodreana sodreana)
  4. Green iguana (Iguana iguana)
  5. European fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina)
  6. Garfish (Belone belone)
  7. Milkfish (Chanos chanos)
  8. Common swift (Apus apus)
  9. European goat moth (Cossus cossus)
  10. Sludge worm (Tubifex tubifex)

Tautonymous names are scientific names of species in which both parts of the name have the same spelling. For reasons that are not clear to me, such names are prohibited for flora but just fine for fauna.
