All the Scots in the audience already know this, of course, but for the rest of you, today is the day Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace was executed for treason by Edward I of England. Astute observers will note little resemblance between the man depicted in this statue and Mel Gibson; those who prefer the latter may enjoy this statue of Wallace, which until recently could be found at the National Wallace Monument near Stirling. It was removed in 2008 to make way for a visitor's center; the sculptor has offered it to Donald Trump for use on a golf resort being built outside of Aberdeen.
