Your assignment for tomorrow

My friend Leigh is a television producer. (An Emmy-nominated producer, I might add.) Her new show, Date Plate, premieres tomorrow night, April 2, at 9:30 PM ET on the Food Network, and I would really appreciate it if you would watch it. Now, I understand that this is not a convenient time for many people who read this, seeing as how it conflicts with both Angel and The West Wing. But there's good news! It will be repeated at 12:30 AM ET on Thursday, April 3. I'm not saying you have to stay up and watch it live, but that's what VCRs and TiVos were invented for, right?

Date Plate is a dating show of sorts, but with a food show grafted onto it. Or maybe it's a food show with a dating show attached. Whatever. Here's the premise: two single men, assisted by professional chefs, plan and cook a meal for a single woman. Based solely on the meal, the woman chooses one of the men and goes on a date with him. (The show will feature both men cooking for women and women cooking for men.) The show is taped in various restaurants around the country.

The episode airing tomorrow was taped at a restaurant here in DC, and I had the privilege of visiting the "set" while it was taped. (So I know which guy gets picked! I'm a spoiler whore!) And while I'm hardly unbiased, I think it's going to be a very entertaining show. So give it a try.
