Ten random things: September 22

Ten of my LJ user icons, as selected by dionneshea:

  1. Arrested Development icon
Like all right thinking people, I was a big fan of Arrested Development. This icon, showing Buster being terrorized by a sheep in a photo booth, is taken from episode 15 of season one. I don't like that the background of the fourth frame is noticeably darker than that of the other frames, but at this point I don't really feel like changing it. It may also be worth noting that this is one of the very few icons that does not have a thin black border. I went with a thick white border to replicate the look of a photo strip.
  2. Snoopy icon
I love this icon. The minute I saw the strip on which it is based, I realized it could very easily be adapted into an animated icon. It took freaking forever, but I think it's unquestionably one of the best I've ever made.
  3. Harry and Susan icon
Ah, Harry Potter and Susan Bones, my OTP. The image was assembled from a pair of drawings by potterpuffs, an LJ user who drew Harry Potter characters in the style of the Powerpuff Girls. Her drawings were all the rage in LJ-based HP fandom for a few months back in 2005. I made this after the release of Half-Blood Prince, to show the world that despite the events in that volume, I was still stubbornly clinging to the Harry-Susan pairing. Which could still happen! As I've said before, who knows what will happen 20 years later?
  4. Angry racoon icon
I'm pretty sure this is a panel from a Mark Trail comic strip, and I made it into an icon just because I thought it was a funny image. Mark Trail isn't a strip I normally read, so that means I must have first seen it in the brilliant Comics Curmudgeon blog, but having gone through the archive over there, I can't find the original strip. Weird.
  5. Batman icon
This is taken from a panel of an old Batman comic book, and I created it because a) I thought it'd be cute to use as an icon for my art posts, and b) I had a bunch of Superman icons but no Batman icons. I think I saw the original at Chris’s Invincible Super-Blog.
  6. Reese Witherspoon icon
Reese Witherspoon is, of course, my secret girlfriend. Our relationship is so secret that not even she knows about it. I figure it's best that way... keeps the paparazzi off my back, you know? The picture is either from the Oscars or the Golden Globes in 2006. If I had to do this one over, I'd make the text areas above and below the picture transparent, like I did with the Harry and Susan icon.
  7. Awkward pirate icon
This is a panel from the comic strip Brewster Rocket: Space Guy!. I thought it might be useful to have an icon expressing awkwardness, though I think I've used it just as often for pirate-related posts.
  8. Tender juicy children icon
This is taken from a panel from Jeff Smith's Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil, published in 2007 by DC Comics. I made it into an icon just because it amused me. Because what's funnier than little kids being devoured by talking crocodiles?
  9. Armadillo icon
I love armadillos. They have been my favorite animal since I was in grade school, so of course I have to have an armadillo icon in my rotation at all times. This is a relatively new one; I saw the montage of an armadillo curling itself into a ball elsewhere on the and the phrase just popped into my head. Like the Reese Witherspoon icon, I'd probably make the background transparent on this one if I had to do it over, but at the time I didn't have an image editor that could make transparent backgrounds.
  10. Final battle icon
This is taken from an xkcd comic. The panel spoke to me, in part because I am a Firefly fan who was quite disappointed when the show was canceled, but mostly because I have a deep contempt for Internet petition drives. I like the minimalism of it as well.

My favorite kind of LJ meme is the kind that I make into a list of ten things. dionneshea posted the following in her journal the other day:

  1. Comment to this entry saying 'ICONS!' and I will pick 6 of your icons.
  2. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I picked!

I called her bluff, but insisted she choose ten icons instead of just six. And she did! Yay her! If you'd like to do this meme yourself, say so in the comments and I'll hook you up.
