Ten random things: October 20

Ten state symbols of Wisconsin:

  1. State Wildlife Animal: White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
  2. State Grain: Corn (Zea mays)
  3. State Animal: Badger (Taxidea taxus)
  4. State Beverage: Milk
  5. State Fish: Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy Mitchell)
  6. State Dog: American Water Spaniel
  7. State Tree: Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum)
  8. State Fossil: Trilobite (Calymene celebra)
  9. State Bird: Robin (Turdus migratorius)
  10. State Soil: Antigo Silt Loam (Typic glossoboralf)

As I said to my brother-in-law earlier tonight: "State wildlife animal? What, because of all the tame badgers you have around here?"

I would also like to point out that the Illinois state fossil, the Tully Monster (Tullimonstrum gregarium), is way cooler than Wisconsin's.
