Ten random things: February 19

Ten Olympic figure skating gold medalists:

  1. Viktor Petrenko (Unified Team, 1992)
  2. Katarina Witt (East Germany, 1988)
  3. Sjoukje Dijkstra (Netherlands, 1964)
  4. Robin Cousins (Great Britain, 1980)
  5. Oksana Baiul (Ukraine, 1994)
  6. Ilia Kulik (Russia, 1998)
  7. Sarah Hughes (USA, 2002)
  8. Ondrej Nepela (Czechoslovakia, 1972)
  9. Shizuka Arakawa (Japan, 2006)
  10. Evan Lysacek (USA, 2010)

Every Olympics needs a figure skating-related kerfuffle, and this year's, apparently, is Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko's hissy fit over losing the gold medal to Evan Lysacek. Lysacek, apparently, had the utter gall to skate a program that included no quadruple jumps, which Plushenko considers unacceptable. Apparently Mr. Plushenko was under the impression that his opinion was to be taken into account by the judges. A not unreasonable expectation, perhaps, considering some of the hinky judging witnessed at previous Olympics.
